The Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) is an international philanthropic organisation that has supported initiatives with lasting social and environmental impact in more than 130 countries since 1996. Its grant-making focuses on the areas of arts and culture, education, health, and social welfare, with the aim of creating positive and sustainable change in the communities it serves.

Callisto’s recent collaboration with SNF was established through a grant supporting the implementation of “The Coexistence Trail”, an environmental education programme delivered both in the classroom and in the field in Vitsa, Zagori. The programme brings students and teachers into direct contact with nature, promoting the coexistence of people and wildlife while highlighting the importance of biodiversity and the conservation of the Pindos mountain range’s large carnivores.

SNF’s support played a key role in the development of this innovative educational initiative, helping to strengthen environmental awareness and foster a deeper connection between local communities and their natural environment.

The Bodossaki Foundation is one of Greece’s leading charitable foundations, with a long-standing commitment to strengthening civil society through initiatives in social cohesion, education, health, culture and human rights. By managing and supporting major funding programmes, the Foundation empowers civil society organisations and initiatives that create lasting social impact.

Callisto’s collaboration with the Bodossaki Foundation began in 2016 through its support for the implementation of transparency and accountability principles within the organisation. The partnership continued during 2023–2024 through the project “20 Years of Callisto – Strategic and Organisational Development Needs.” The project aimed to strengthen Callisto’s impact, visibility and long-term sustainability by developing its 2023–2027 Strategic Plan, improving internal processes, enhancing organisational capacity and renewing its corporate identity. This support laid the foundations for the next stage of Callisto’s institutional development.

The A. G. Leventis Foundation is an internationally recognised charitable organisation that supports initiatives in the fields of culture, education, scientific research and environmental conservation. With a long-standing presence in Greece and Cyprus, the Foundation invests in projects that promote knowledge, social cohesion and sustainable development.

Callisto’s partnership with the A. G. Leventis Foundation began through the “Wildlife Around Us” programme (2018–2020). The project included scientific research in the peri-urban forests of Seich Sou and Hortiatis, near Thessaloniki, with the aim of documenting wildlife, studying public attitudes towards nature, and assessing the ecological importance of these areas. The findings were subsequently used to develop environmental education programmes for local schools, helping children build a meaningful connection with the natural environment surrounding their city.

The collaboration continued in 2023–2024 through the “Connecting People and Wildlife” programme, which supports initiatives promoting the coexistence of people and wildlife. The project contributes to the continued monitoring of the innovative Animal–Vehicle Collision Prevention System (AVC PS) installed in Western Macedonia under the LIFE Safe Crossing project, while also supporting the communication and outreach activities of the LIFE Wild Wolf project. The Foundation’s support strengthens the long-term sustainability of these conservation initiatives and helps raise public awareness about living alongside wildlife.

The European Nature Trust (TENT) is an international conservation charity that supports a network of projects implemented by environmental organisations dedicated to safeguarding Europe’s remaining wild landscapes and biodiversity.

Since 2026, TENT has supported Callisto through a multi-faceted grant that strengthens key initiatives promoting the coexistence of people and wildlife. In particular, it co-funds the Connectivity Conservation Initiative for Fresh Drinking Water, a project that aims to maintain ecological connectivity between protected and non-protected areas, enabling large carnivores to move freely and access reliable sources of drinking water.

At the same time, TENT supports the operation of Callisto’s Bear Emergency Team (BET) in the Northern Pindos region, as well as communication, public awareness and habitat restoration activities that encourage the active participation of local communities in wildlife conservation.

INTERLIFE Insurance is a Greek non-life insurance company headquartered in Thessaloniki, providing a wide range of high-quality insurance products and services throughout Greece. Founded in 1991, the company has established a strong presence in the insurance sector through steady growth and a commitment to reliability, innovation and corporate responsibility.

Through its Corporate Social Responsibility programme, “I Offer… Differently” (Prosfero… Allios), INTERLIFE has supported Callisto for many years through long-term sponsorships. This partnership includes insurance coverage for volunteers and vehicles used in volunteer programmes, forest protection activities, wildlife monitoring, and initiatives that promote the coexistence of people and wildlife.

The history of Estates Costa Lazaridi is closely intertwined with the modern winemaking heritage of the Drama region in northern Greece. In the early 1970s, Costa Lazaridi recognised the extraordinary potential of his homeland and established a 10-hectare vineyard on the slopes of Mount Falakro, driven by the vision of making Drama one of Greece’s—and the world’s—leading wine-producing regions.

Today, the Estates’ vineyards extend across four locations in the Drama region—Adriani, Kali Vrysi, Katafyto and Platania—as well as organically cultivated vineyards near Marathon Lake in Attica. Each site possesses distinct environmental characteristics, allowing the winery to make the most of the unique microclimate and terroir of every vineyard.

At Estates Costa Lazaridi, sustainability and regenerative viticulture are integral to vineyard management. All vineyards are certified by the Regenerative Viticulture Foundation, reflecting the company’s commitment to cultivating the land with respect for soil health, biodiversity and future generations.

The partnership between Estates Costa Lazaridi and Callisto began in 2025 with the production of a video highlighting the importance of protecting wildlife and nature. Since then, the collaboration has continued through joint initiatives and financial support from Estates Costa Lazaridi, contributing to Callisto’s conservation work.

EuroNatur is one of Europe’s leading nature conservation organisations. Based in Germany, it has been promoting biodiversity conservation, habitat protection and ecological connectivity across Europe since 1982 through strategic partnerships and international conservation programmes.

Callisto works closely with EuroNatur on a range of strategic initiatives that promote the coexistence of people and wildlife. EuroNatur is the coordinating partner of the Tripoint Brown Bear Conservation (TBBC) project (2024–2026), which strengthens the transboundary conservation of the brown bear and ecological connectivity across the borders of Greece, Albania and North Macedonia. TBBC builds on the earlier Tri-Point Brown Bear (TBB) project (2022–2023), also coordinated by EuroNatur, which laid the foundations for a cross-border conservation network by enhancing institutional cooperation and joint monitoring of brown bear populations in the three countries.

As manager of the BestBelt funding programme, EuroNatur also supported the project “Connecting People & Wildlife in the Balkan Green Belt,” which focused on the conservation of large mammals and raising environmental awareness among local communities along the Greek-Bulgarian border.

Since January 2026, Callisto has also been a partner in the LIFE DinPin Bear project (LIFE24-NAT-DE-LIFE DinPin Bear), coordinated by EuroNatur. The project aims to develop a population-level conservation strategy for the Dinaric–Pindos brown bear population by addressing habitat fragmentation, improving human–wildlife conflict management and strengthening cross-border cooperation for the species’ long-term conservation.

In addition, Callisto is an active member of the European Green Belt Initiative, coordinated by EuroNatur. The initiative promotes the conservation of the European Green Belt—a unique ecological corridor following the route of the former Iron Curtain between Eastern and Western Europe—by enhancing habitat connectivity, protecting threatened species and fostering international cooperation for nature conservation and environmental sustainability.

Rewilding Europe is an international non-profit organisation based in the Netherlands, dedicated to restoring wild nature and natural processes across Europe through the principles of rewilding. Working closely with local partners, communities and institutions, the organisation seeks to restore ecosystem functionality, enhance biodiversity and strengthen ecological connectivity at a landscape scale.

Rewilding Europe is the coordinating partner of the LIFE Bear-Smart Corridors project, which aims to strengthen brown bear populations in Central Italy and Greece through the development of coexistence corridors. The project promotes the Bear Smart Community model, fostering collaboration between local communities and stakeholders to reduce human–bear conflicts and encourage the long-term coexistence of people and bears.

Since 2026, Callisto has also been a member of the European Rewilding Network (ERN), a dynamic European platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration on rewilding initiatives. The ERN supports projects across Europe by facilitating the sharing of best practices, communication, capacity building and the development of joint initiatives that contribute to more resilient and functional ecosystems.

WWF Greece is an independent, non-profit environmental organisation dedicated to protecting nature and biodiversity in Greece. Through science-based conservation, environmental education, policy advocacy and collaboration with institutions, local communities and citizens, WWF Greece works to halt the degradation of the natural environment, promote the sustainable use of natural resources and foster a future where people and nature thrive together.

Callisto and WWF Greece work closely together through the Greek Wildlife Alliance, a collaborative initiative bringing together eleven environmental organisations committed to conserving Greece’s biodiversity. Coordinated and supported by WWF Greece, the Alliance promotes a wide range of actions aimed at improving the management of protected areas, reducing threats to flagship species and strengthening the coexistence of people and wildlife.

As part of this partnership, Callisto actively contributes through initiatives such as the Large Carnivore Observatory and the Wolf Emergency Response Team, while also advancing scientific knowledge on wolves in Greece and developing educational and awareness-raising materials that support informed public dialogue on wildlife conservation.
