Volunteering
At Callisto, we believe that volunteering is a meaningful form of active civic participation that contributes to the common good. Together with our volunteers, we design initiatives that respond to the specific needs of each area where we work, while respecting and collaborating closely with the local communities involved.
Our volunteer activities are diverse, participatory, and designed to support nature conservation, address environmental challenges, improve human–wildlife coexistence, and strengthen local communities. Our volunteer programmes are open to everyone who wishes to contribute, regardless of gender, nationality, educational background, or any other characteristic.
Everyone can support Callisto according to their interests and skills—or even help develop new initiatives.
How you can get involved
1) Environmental education activities in schools, outdoors, and other educational settings.
2) Fieldwork in nature, where volunteers work alongside Callisto’s staff and specialists in the areas where the organisation is active. Activities include monitoring signs of large mammal presence, habitat restoration and clean-up actions, and supporting local communities.
3) Office-based volunteering, assisting different departments of the organisation. We welcome volunteers with interests or experience in communications, environmental education, volunteer coordination, graphic design, photography, and other administrative or creative tasks.
4) Remote volunteering, including activities such as translation and other forms of online support.
5) Summer volunteer programmes, organised regularly in important mountain ecosystems. Together with the Callisto team and local communities, volunteers participate in forest conservation activities, support research on the area’s natural and cultural heritage, develop and implement creative field initiatives, provide information to visitors and local producers, and assist in the monitoring of protected areas. Participation in the summer programmes typically lasts one to two weeks.
6) Public awareness events, where Callisto engages children and adults through educational activities and outreach on large carnivores and the importance of human–wildlife coexistence.
7) Training and ongoing support, with Callisto staff providing guidance, mentoring, and capacity-building throughout the volunteer experience to ensure participants gain valuable knowledge, skills, and practical experience.
